Therese Ridden

I grew up on the West Coast of the South Island in the bush near Reefton. I now live on a lifestyle block in Brookside near Leeston.

My artwork is constantly evolving from real to surreal to abstract, I use mainly acrylic paints as I love to layer and appreciate the short drying time, also by incorporating different mediums into the work you can develop depth and distance and add much more to a composition.

My inspiration is always the natural world, the light on a particular day, the texture of a forest, the weather rolling in a new palette every morning, the immersion of colour from season to season.

I enjoy the ideas and inspiration of other artists from workshops, books and the internet there’s always a new avenue to explore.

In a world that doesn’t always make sense it is so important to see the good and the beauty that is present all around us.
